My Background

I have a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (Chicago) and I completed a year of postgraduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (New York City) where I served as a member of the intake committee and worked as a therapist.

I spent 7 years studying and working in Europe. In Barcelona, I taught courses in developmental and cultural psychology to American undergraduates studying abroad and provided intercultural training to the largely European faculty. I also provided writing and publication consultation to the Department of Psychiatry at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (Barcelona) on research studies on adult attention-deficit disorder (ADD), borderline personality disorder, the treatment of medical professionals with addictions, and drug studies on methylphenidate for ADD and on opiate replacement/maintenance treatments.

My clinical training and work experience have included working with people from many different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in a variety of clinical settings, including psychiatric inpatient unit, substance abuse clinic, community mental health center, and emergency department. I have experience and I am comfortable working with a broad range of issues from stress management and relationship concerns to more serious psychological conditions. I also have experience working with sexual, physical and emotional trauma.
